SUN + TECHNOLOGY = POWERED EXPEDITION
The Sun is in the sky everyday and is sending energy from the distance of 150 million km (93 million miles).
The Earth receives the energy from the Sun and if there is no-clouds one square meter receives one kilowatt of energy. Even if there is overcast sky the area of small swimming pool would receive enough energy to power an average household. That would happen during six hours of such weather condition. We just need to harvest that power. Solar energy is clean energy that means it has no impact on the nature versus energy generated from burning coal, oil or gas (greenhouse gas emission).
We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Nature’s inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide. … I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that.
Solar panels and batteries are more and more popular as a source of energy for remote traveling and expeditions. Sun is there everyday and even if there are clouds solar batteries capture that energy. We carry the gadgets – cellphones, cameras, tablets, GPS receivers …. We rely on them during our trips. And what if car battery would go down? Solar battery with the panel is reliable and helpful.
When we are choosing the right equipment for our expeditions we always consider the quality, the functionality and how much space it would take. GOALZERO solar products have all of those characteristics. They are very good to pack when the space is limited and have critical functions integrated. For example, the YETI 150 solar generator holds 150 watts of power, includes 2 USB ports, one 110V inverter and one regular 12V car connection. All of that in a box smaller than regular shoebox.
From variety of GOALZERO products we selected the products right for our expeditions – compact, functional and reliable. Each of our JEEPMAK is equipped with:
- battery – YETI 150W (2xUSB, 110V inverter, 12V)
- solar panel – NOMAD 13W (1xUSB)
- camp light – LED, 3W, 270 lumens
- car battery charger/controller
- cables
With such solar power kit we can:
- have a camp light all night long
- charge our gadgets (cellphone, tablets, laptops, HAM radio)
- use 110V chargers for our digital camera and video camera batteries
- charge AA re-chargeable batteries for GPS
- power the refrigerator
- charge the car batteries (yes! it happened to us, and jeep was able to be up and running using solar energy)
